One of the most overlooked features of the Kolea Community when choosing a property on the Kohala Coast are the Guest Hales. Located next to the ancient Hawaiian fishponds of Anaeho’omalu Bay, these two units provide Kolea owners options for accommodating friends and family which simply are unavailable elsewhere.

The Hales are not available to the general public. They can only be reserved by Kolea owners, and the owners have to be present on the property during the period their guests occupy a hale. Due to the number of Kolea properties that are vacation rentals, these amenities are comparatively rarely used, with occupancy rates in the low 20% range. A Hale can be reserved by an owner no more than one year in advance, or on a first-come, first-served basis 45 days prior to making a reservation, depending on occupancy.

At $250 per night, with no GET or TAT taxes or cleaning fees, the Hales are one of the most, if not the most, affordable places to stay on the Kohala Coast. Similar residential units at the nearby LavaLava Club that are available to the general public rent for $500 plus per night, not including taxes and cleaning fees.

Need a place for parents, children, or friends to stay while visiting you at Kolea? The Hales are the answer and are used by many owners effectively as an extra bedroom. In fact, in many cases, Kolea owners choose to have their guests stay in their property, and opt to stay in the Hales themselves during family visits when space is at a premium.

I always show the Guest Hales as part of the property tours of potential Kolea buyers. I have been asked literally thousands of times over the years, “Can I buy one of these?” If you live at Kolea, you don’t need to buy one to be able to take advantage of using a Hale. They are truly a unique perk of being an owner at Kolea.
