In my Venice days 4 to 6 of my Italian holidays video, after going to Brunate in the funicular. I make my way to Venice.
Views from Brunate weren´t as good as I thought they would be. For nice views you´ve got to walk to the Volta lighthouse, which can take somewhere between 1 and 2 hours. Supposedly there´s a bus but I didn´t see it while I was there even though according to the timetable it was supposed to pass by.
To move from one city to another I´m using the train. It´s fast, comfortable and it has reasonable prices. I did think about renting a car for the trip but taking in consideration car rental, fuel, toll fees, parking and some fine that you might get, made the train make more sense to me.
In Venice, I do the typical things for a tourist, visit the most emblematic sites, a trip to Murano and Burano and of course a gondola ride.
From Venice my trip continues to Modena. Train Venice to Bologna and car from Bologna to Modena.
Avoid renting from LOCAUTO at all cost.

The hotel is located in the Cannaregio area of Venice. It is a pretty nice hotel. The vaporetto station is about 3 minutes away. There are a few stops to the main train station, a couple of stops going to Murano and you can walk to St. Mark´s square in around 15 or 20 minutes walking through streets and canals.

Venezia Unica website: https://www.veneziaunica.it
In this website you can configure and buy your card. They are available for 1,2,3 or 7 days. I bought the 3 days one and it was around 40€ (45$).

St. Marks Basilica website: http://www.basilicasanmarco.it/?lang=en
Entry to the basilica is free so expect to wait in a queue. In this website you can make a reservation to avoid the queue.

To climb to St. Mark´s bell tower you can make queue avoidance reservation as well. I did buy the ticket when i got there and didn´t have to wait for too long.

Doge´s Palace website: https://palazzoducale.visitmuve.it/es/home
As i mention in the video, I did the Secret Itineraries tour which lasts around an hour 15 minutes and afterwards you can stay en visit the Palace. I found the tour very interesting.

The private gondola ride (maximum capacity is 6 people) is priced at 80€ (90$) and lasts around 30 minutes. You can extend the duration of your ride and it will cost you 40€ (45$) for every extra 20 minutes and that´s before 7pm, after that it is 100€ (113$), and 50€ (56$) for the extra 20 minutes.
Serenade is extra as well. Only cash accepted for payment and usually the Gondolieri are pretty unfriendly.
You can also reserve your gondola ride on-line and it will cost around 35€/person on a shared gondola basis.
