Tel Megiddo is an ancient archaeological site in the Jezreel valley (Marj bin Amer) It was situated on the important trade route, Via Maris, that connected Egypt with Mesopotamia. Many important battles were fought here. The most famous one dates from 1457 BC when Tuthmose III came through the most unexpected narrow Aruna pass to capture the city from rebelling Canaanite vasal kings. So many battles were fought that it is not a surprise that Har Megiddo (the mountain of Megiddo) became the location of the final battle of Armageddon in the book of Revelations.
