Can you travel to Montenegro with diabetes? Well, I did. And even though it was a very mysterious country it’s a lot of fun to travel around and see everything. My blood sugars weren’t spectacular but they weren’t too bad, considering. Be smart, and be careful, and diabetes won’t stop you.

This is my personal blood sugar report from nine days in Montenegro.

This video is sort of a competition between each of the nine days in Montenegro: How good were my blood sugars on each day? The *ultimate* goal would be *all* readings between 70 and 130 mg/dL. Failing that, at least an *average* between 70 and 130. And if not, I’d hope for at least every reading under 200. Let the games begin!

*** BLOOD SUGARS IN MONTENEGRO: DAY ONE
The first destination on this trip into Montenegro was the coastal town of Ulcinj. Unfortunately, after the breakfast reading of 111 back in Albania, my first blood sugar reading in Montenegro was 260. After some soup and pretzels and chocolate, 287. So much for perfection. Before dinner it was 197, and then after some seafood down in town at a cool restaurant built sort of over the road, it was 167.

So the average on Day #1 was 204. Sometimes it doesn’t work out like you hope. Better luck tomorrow.

*** DAYS TWO THROUGH NINE...
The rest of the days were sort of up and down and a couple were great indeed. A couple were less so. Watch the video to see them all.

*** MONTENEGRIN BLOOD SUGARS OVERALL
Overall, the average of the 35 blood sugar readings I took in Montenegro was 177, ranging from 57 to 324. A mixed success. But the experience of seeing what we saw in this small country was totally worth it. This is definitely the type of place you need to come back to and see more of.
