The Beira region in central Portugal has so much to offer, from glorious mountainous escapes to historical fortress towns, from idyllic villages to sprawling vineyards. This region occupies a significant Portuguese frontier, facing the border with Spain, so you'll find a string of defensive castle towns that have protected the nation ever since the founding of Portugal.

We continued our odyssey across this region, exploring the bucolic mountainous escape, starting in the beautiful town of Manteigas, where we were welcomed by Ecolã into their textile factory, where wool has been sheared, spun and woven since 1925. We were also welcomed in their latest project, Hotel da Fábrica, turning an ancestral factory into a mountain refuge.

Soon, we spirited ourselves away into the land of castles and "aldeias historicas" or historic villages, exploring Sabugal, Celorico da Beira, Almeida, Figueira Castelo Rodrigo and Castelo Branco. And finally, indulged in the incredible wines in this region, guided by expert sommelier Salvador Borges de Castro, with a little help from the Adega Cooperative de Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo.

That's our Beira trip complete - a satisfying odyssey into this region that awaken the senses. Thank you for being part of this journey!
