#kapalicarsi #shopping #istanbul2022 The Grand Bazaar is one of the oldest and largest covered markets in the world. Here you’ll find more than 4,000 shops and stalls spread over 61 streets on a total area 30.700 m2. Grand Bazaar really is a huge bazaar! Grand Bazaar (Kapalıçarşı in Turkish) is one of the world's greatest shopping destinations
In fact, the Grand Bazaar has previously won the title of the world’s most visited tourist attraction.
Therefore, it isn’t that hard to understand why the Grand Bazaar is one of the most popular places to go shopping in Istanbul.
When visiting the Grand Bazaar there’s almost a guarantee that you’ll get lost in the maze of narrow streets.
They’re seriously filled with all sorts of goods! Here you can buy everything from clothes, hand-loomed carpets and kilims, shoes, bags, cushions, Pillows & Other Small Textiles and jewelry to Turkish specialties, rugs, lamps, lanterns, ceramics, water pipes and souvenirs.
Good places in the Grand Bazaar to begin carpet shopping are Takkeciler Sokak and the Zincirli Han.
You cannot cover the breadth of the Grand Bazaar on one visit. If you want to explore, or are a serious shopper, reserve an entire morning or afternoon here for a first visit and don't expect to see everything.
Expect to get lost. Half the fun of the Grand Bazaar is losing your bearings and stumbling upon one of the alley dead ends that open up into an arcaded han
Shopping Tips in Grand Bazaar
Remember to negotiate the price. Usually, the price can be negotiated down to half the starting price. Bargaining is the name of the game in Grand Bazaar. For an idea about how much items cost, spend some time browsing a range of shops before purchasing. Shopkeepers and touts here speak a range of languages.
Unless you really know what you're doing, do not buy a carpet as an investment. If a carpet seller keeps pressuring you to buy a more expensive carpet than the ones you're looking at and like, walk away from the sale.
How to Get Grand Bazaar
Situated within the walled city, the Grand Bazaar is at a walkable distance from both Hagia Sofia and Blue Mosque, and visiting all these places can be combined to one day should you be short of time. The best way to get to the Grand Bazaar is by the city's tram, getting off at the Beyazit-Kapalicarsi stop
The Grand Bazaar is free to visit 24 hours a day and is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
